Recently, the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA) show that global production of molybdenum remained static in the Q1 of 2019 when compared to the same quarter last year, while global usage fell by 7%.
China remained the major producer of molybdenum at 51.5M pounds, representing an 11% rise in comparison to the same quarter in 2018. South America was at 43.3M pounds, representing a 10% decrease in the same quarter of 2018. North America saw a 1% increase in production to 33.4M pounds compared to the same quarter of 2018. Production in other countries remained static at 9.7M pounds compared to the previous quarter.
Global usage fell by 7% to 136.6M pounds compared to the same quarter of the previous year. China with 44.5M pounds represents a fall of 18% compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Usage in Japan was 2% below the same quarter of the previous year. The USA saw a 9% drop in usage to 13.5 M pounds when compared to the same quarter of the previous year. Other countries used 21.9M pounds, representing a 1% drop when compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
