Liberty Mines to restart Timmins operations

Liberty Mines of Toronto intends to restart production at its Timmins operations in Q1 2012. Mining and milling was suspended in February 2011 as a result of maintenance and tailings pond issues. The company has spent the last six months analyzing the tailings pond problems and will embark on a project to raise the tailings dam to provide an additional three years of capacity. There is a possibility that a new tailings management area will have to be built to treat tails for 15 more years; this new facility could get regulatory approval by the end of 2013. Liberty will restart operations with 170,000tns of broken ore in the underground McWatters mine and 25,0000tns stockpiled on the surface.
