Fronius’s LaserHybrid welding process is designed to combine the advantages of laser and
arc. Experts consider the whole spectrum of sheet metalworking as an excellent area of
application. But up to now high costs have meant that hybrid welding has been reserved for large-scale industrial users. Now all this is set to change. Dietrich Aldinger, managing director of the German metalworking company of the same name, has tested and purchased a LaserHybrid system. In addition to the technical advantages he also confirms a series of economic benefits and synergy effects that render the system of special interest to small and medium-sized businesses. A LaserHybrid system allows individually tailored combinations of laser and arc from 0 to 100. The process offers maximum flexibility in terms of the materials to be processed and also with regard to the range of applications from pure arc or laser welding through to individual settings tailored to suit the user’s requirements. Aldinger is very pleased with the system technology provided by Fronius, the Austrian welding system manufacturer. “Now, for example, we can
fabricate welds in complex stainless steel housings that cannot be executed with laser
alone. Generally speaking there is a drop in the cost of weld preparation.”
