Jacobs to build biotechnology facility

Jacobs Engineering Group Inc. has announced that a subsidiary company will provide full-service design, engineering, procurement, and construction management services at Genzyme Corporation’s biotech production facility in Geel, Belgium. The Geel facility includes pharmaceutical production, utility distribution, and administrative and employee amenities. Officials did not disclose the contract value but estimate the groundbreaking in the summer of 2002 and mechanical completion by spring of 2004. The project will be developed at the Pharming NV site; Genzyme recently acquired Pharming.
