Figures released by the International Molybdenum Association (IMOA) show that global production of molybdenum rose while usage fell in Q3 of 2019 when compared to Q2 of the same year.
Global production of molybdenum rose by 1% to 143.9 million pounds (mlbs) when compared to the previous quarter of 2019, a 4% rise when compared to the same quarter of last year. Global use of molybdenum fell by 8% to 136.4 mlbs, a fall of 7% when compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
China remained the largest producer of molybdenum at 52.8 mlbs, a 4% increase on the previous quarter. Production in South America saw the largest percentage increase of 10% to 48.3 mlbs when compared to the previous quarter.
China remained the largest user at 53.6 mlbs, a 4% decrease when compared to the previous quarter. Europe remained the second largest user at 30.2 mlbs, it experienced a 16% drop when compared to the previous quarter. Molybdenum use in the USA fell to 13.7 mlbs, a 2% fall when compared to the previous quarter.
