IISI approves changes to organisation

IISI held its Annual Meeting of Members and Annual Meeting of the Board of Directors in Paris on 9 December 2001. The meeting approved new objectives for the Institute following a strategic review of its future role conducted with the membership over the last year. In future, IISI will focus on the five areas of providing a forum for steel business issues, sustainability, communications, market development and benchmarking best practice. The new organisation gives voting rights to all steel companies which were previously restricted to the larger companies. A new Executive Committee has been formed which will meet every three months and enable the steel industry to be more pro-active on key business issues. The Board of Directors elected Sir Brian Moffat, OBE (Chairman, Corus plc, UK) as the IISI Chairman for the next year together with A. Chihaya (President, Nippon Steel Corporation, Japan), T.J. Usher (Chairman and CEO, USX Corporation, USA) and J.T. Mayberry (President and CEO, Dofasco Inc., Canada) as Vice Chairmen. Others were elected to new Executive Committee.
