Gamesa to install turnkey wind farm in Costa Rica

Gamesa, a global technology company in wind energy, signed a contract to build, deliver and install a 50MW wind farm as a turnkey project for Globeleq Mesoamerica Energy (GME) in Costa Rica.

Gamesa will install 25 of its G87-2.0MW wind turbines in the Orosí wind farm, financed by multilateral funding from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (US Ex-Im Bank), the Dutch Development Bank (FMO) and the International Bank of Costa Rica (BICSA). The wind farm, in Guanacaste region, is expected to be finished at the end of 2014 or in early 2015.

As per the terms of the agreement, Gamesa will also develop all necessary infrastructures for the project’s installation and operation, including an electricity substation, a high-tension line and the site’s connection to the power grid. It will also carry out operation and maintenance (O&M) services at the wind farm for a period of 5 years. This is the third time Gamesa will work with GME, after the Cerro de Hula project (116MW), in Honduras, and the Eolo wind farm (44MW) in Nicaragua.
