Duplex Stainless Steel of NSSC chosen for shipbuil

Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel Corporation’s NSSC®2120, a type of duplex stainless steel has been chosen for the construction of two domestic tankers by Sasaki Shipbuilding Co Ltd and Hakata Shipbuilding Co Ltd. This is a first in Japan.

Sasaki and Hakata recognizing the high performance and great economy obtainable from this stainless steel, have decided to use NSSC®2120 for their respective chemical tanker and oil tanker for coasting service.

In recent years, duplex stainless steels are increasingly being used for the construction of chemical tankers around the world. However, until now in Japan, duplex stainless steels have not been used for chemical tankers.
