Invensys APV in Canada has won a USD 3 million order for the supply of Paraflow Plate Heat Exchanger units from Enwave, the project owner and successor to the Toronto District Heating Corporation. The project comprises an air conditioning system for use in Toronto’s downtown buildings, as well as new buildings, planned for the bank of Lake Ontario. Enwave will transfer the cold temperature from the City of Toronto potable water system to a closed cooling loop that circulates water to buildings in the downtown core. The system is expected to be operational by the summer of 2004, and it will eventually chill 20 million square feet of office space. The key to the project is to draw the icy water from a depth of 83 metres at a constant temperature of 4 degrees C and use it efficiently to chill the water used for air conditioning in buildings. Enwave has calculated that air pollution reduction from the system will be nearly 400 tons, the equivalent of taking 4000 to 8000 cars a year off the road.
