Cutting-edge spillway control system

Hydroplus has used Outokumpu’s lean duplex LDX 2101® stainless steel in the upgrade of the La Para dam in Adelaide, Australia with Fusegates®, the company’s proprietary technology to increase reservoir storage capacity with the help of a non-mechanical structure that sits atop the spillway of a dam. The La Para Fusegates® are a unique spillway control system, representing the most technically advanced and structurally efficient technology in the world. The key is an all stainless steel structure and use of Outokumpu’s lean duplex LDX 2101® stainless steel. The new system has been designed to meet demanding requirements. The customer, SA Water, targets 100-year design life and virtually no maintenance. In addition, Hydroplus has sought to reduce construction time on site and to deliver a carbon neutral project.
