Co-generation for Canadian refinery

Irving Oil Ltd, St John, Canada, and TransCanada Energy Ltd, a unit of TransCanada PipeLines Ltd., Calgary, plan to build an USD 80 million co-generation plant at Irving Oil’s refinery at St John, Canada’s largest. The proposed facility, to be fuelled by natural gas, will produce steam and power for refinery operations. The project, designed to enhance the refinery’s energy efficiency and operational reliability, also supports New Brunswick’s Energy Policy that promotes co-generation as the “most energy-efficient electricity generation option.â€?
