China’s highest skyscraper to use Outokumpu’s faça

Outokumpu will provide stainless steel for the façade on Ping An Finance Center in Shenzhen, China. The skyscraper’s façade will be the largest stainless steel façade in the world. The building, expected to be finished in April 2016, will be 660m tall and it is set to be the highest skyscraper in China and the second-highest in the world.
The Ping An Finance Center will cover almost 0.5km2 of building area and will house the headquarters of Ping An Life Insurance Company of China as well as shops of high- end international and local brands, fine restaurants and an entertainment complex.
The façade, which is an important part of the structure of a skyscraper, requires a high quality stainless steel. Stainless steel has become a preferred material for architectural façades as its mechanical properties allow for a thinner façade and keep the building insulated from the elements as well as sound. The corrosion resistance of stainless steel also prolongs the life of other materials.
Outokumpu is a leading developer of tailored surface finishes for unique and long lasting building façades, and has a long track record in providing high quality stainless steel to skyscrapers, examples spanning across time and geography, from the 80 years old Chrysler Building to the new Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building in the world.
