COSL Pioneer, China’s first deep water, semi submersible drilling platform was delivered from Yantai CIMC Raffles for COSL. The platform is one of the most advanced deepwater drilling platforms built to date, equipped with DP3 dynamic positioning and anchor mooring positioning systems. It also features an unmanned cabin design with remote control available from the navigation and operating rooms. Designed and constructed in accordance with the regulations and standards stipulated by Norway waters, COSL Pioneer also met the requirements of Norwegian Petroleum Safety Administration PSA, Norwegian Maritime Directorate NMD and DNV. The platform was also in accordance with the NORSOK petroleum industry safety standards and relevant traditional requirements for semi-submersible platforms. The platform is 104.5m long and 65m wide, with a depth of 36.85m. It has an operating water depth of 70 to 750m, a maximum vertical drilling depth of 7500m, a maximum design wind speed of 51.5m/sec, and a maximum variable deck load of 4000tns.
