China oilfield to build new rig

China Oilfield Services Ltd will build a new jack-up drilling rig expected to begin operations by the end of 2005. The rig will be capable of drilling in water at depths of up to 400 feet, the company said. It will solicit bids from international companies for the rig’s design and from domestic shipyards for its construction, said the company, which provides oilfield services in offshore China. The cost of the new rig will depend on final design and construction expenses, it added.
