China is now the No.1 stainless steel consumer in the world. Because of high domestic demand, China’s domestic consumption of stainless steel has grown steadily in the last few years and its annual increase rate has been more than 30%. In 2001, China produced 1066 million tons and imported 16,193 million tons of stainless steel. Exports totalled 33,300 tons.
