Outokumpu’s Calvert mill has been named an Innovation Award recipient in Norfolk Southern’s fourth annual Thoroughbred Sustainability Partner Awards. The recognition highlights Calvert’s long-term commitment to operational efficiency and lower-emission logistics, centered on reducing CO₂ emissions across the value chain.
This year’s submission showcased coordinated efforts across Outokumpu’s supply chain, environmental, operations, and logistics teams to provide customers with a more sustainable delivery option. Where feasible, finished products were shipped by rail instead of truck. This shift reduced logistics emissions by more than 10,800 tons of CO₂ in 2024, strengthening both climate performance and supply-chain resilience.
