BUTTING has received an order from an important South American customer from the drilling and well building technology sector, for which they have manufactured pump casings to be used on an FPSO tanker, among other products. Besides the six pump casings for this customer, which the company regularly provides with stainless steel components, BUTTING has also manufactured risers in sizes 4in and 8in as well as pressure bodies as part of this order. Furthermore, at the Knesebeck site, reducers are manufactured, for which they have provided special flanges which serve as transition components between risers with varying diameters. All components manufactured and supplied by BUTTING will be used on the FPSO tanker for domestic water and extinguisher water systems. Salt water will be fed from the sea into the system through pumps and by means of the risers and pump casings, transported to the tanker. Owing to the required high level of corrosion resistance in view of the use of seawater, the material 1.4462 (duplex) has been used. The components were prefabricated entirely by the manufacturing division of BUTTING, while, for their processing, the welding expertise was particularly in demand. A further challenge was the precise mechanical processing. Following their manufacture, the components underwent thorough checks by BUTTING’s quality controllers, and were subsequently sent on their journey to South America.
