Bulgaria: wastewater plant

Mott MacDonald has been awarded a contract to act as technical advisors by the Bulgarian government to develop a new wastewater treatment plant and related sewerage infrastructure in Haskovo, Bulgaria, as part of a European Investment Bank funded initiative. Haskovo, with a population of approximately 80,000 is located in south-central Bulgaria on one of the Maritza River tributaries. It does not have a functioning wastewater treatment plant and wastewater is discharged into the Haskovska River untreated. The overall aim of the project is to reduce the pollution load of the Maritza River and its tributaries and ultimately improve the water quality of the Aegean Sea. Mott MacDonald is providing technical assistance in reviewing and approving the contractor’s design. The consultant will also be administrating and supervising the works contract and providing technical and supervisory support during the operation period of the wastewater treatment project. Construction of the project will be completed by end 2006.
