Braskem Siam, a joint venture between SCG Chemicals, or SCGC, an integrated polymer business for sustainability, and Braskem, a global leader in bioplastics from Brazil have announced progress in its bio-ethylene project. Most recently, the project has been selected by the Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) as one of the pilot projects under the Thailand FastPass measure.
This newly introduced mechanism by the public sector aims to unlock barriers facing large-scale investment projects, particularly those that play a critical role in driving the country’s economic growth, enabling rapid investment execution. The bio-ethylene plant is expected to be completed in 2028, with a production capacity of 200,000 tons per year. The project aims to position Thailand as the first bio-ethylene production base in Asia, supporting growing global demand for environmentally friendly plastics while enhancing the country’s export value.
