John W. (Bill) Pitesa, a veteran of the nuclear industry with 37 years of experience at Duke Energy, is joining the Nuclear Energy Institute as Chief Nuclear Officer (CNO) effective Dec. 1, 2017. Pitesa will be responsible for executive oversight of all aspects of NEI’s nuclear operations including emergency planning, risk assessment, used fuel programs, radiation safety, environmental protection, and fuel and materials safety. He joins NEI as a loaned executive from Duke Energy.
Pitesa will give up his post as the senior vice president and chief nuclear officer at Duke Energy. In this position he was responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the largest regulated nuclear generating fleet in the U.S.
