BEHIND THE NEWS: the prize for clarity goes to…

NSSC

President Mr Hiroshi Kinoshita gives a frank review of NSSC
Posted by David Sear

There’s a textbook example of clarity to be found on the cover of the August issue of Stainless Steel World.

“NSSC invests in duplex production” is the title of the cover story.

Now, you don’t get any more obvious than that. If only all communications were as simple to understand….

But I digress. Back to NSSC’s article.

Nippon Steel & Sumikin Stainless Steel Corp. (NSSC) was created in October 2003 after Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Industries separated and integrated their respective stainless businesses.

Company President Mr Hiroshi Kinoshita comments: “Nippon Steel has a very strong position in so-called flat products including coating steel, while Sumitomo Metals is strong, especially in seamless tubing.”

“Both parent companies have very good technology and metallurgical skills which have a tremendously positive influence on NSSC. This has ensured that our customers have a very high level of confidence in their dealings with us.”

Boosting production

NSSC has three production sites in Japan, with a total melting capacity of 1.1 millions tons of stainless steel.

It may not, therefore, rank amongst the top global players, but it is the largest stainless steel producer in Japan.

Furthermore, NSSC can boast advanced technological capabilities.

Now the company has a clear vision to expand its global business.

The first target, says Mr Kinoshita, has been to boost duplex production at the Yawata plate factory.

The next step will be to expand the duplex families to other products including coils, bars and wire rods.

NSSC’s sense of purpose is quite unmistakable.

This is evident throughout the cover story, in which, Mr Kinoshita gives a frank review of the company’s production capabilities and sales markets.

All in all, it makes for a very clear and concise statement of intent.
