Baosteel Special Steel won the supply contract of the world’s first 10-speed automatic gearbox steel being developed by a Chinese automobile group.
Last year, a 9-speed automatic gearbox was successfully applied in Jeep Cherokee. Soon afterwards, two automobile manufacturers jointly developed 9-speed automatic gearbox, incorporating the newly launched high-grade vehicle from two automobile factories. The 10-speed automatic gearbox has been under development for some time now. The material of 10-speed automobile gearbox needs to be different from that of conventional gearboxes. In particular, it is quite demanding in strength and has special requirement on hardenability and purity. The automobile group started the material localisation program last year as the domestic Chinese high-end automatic gearbox production company.
Baosteel Special Steel set up production, sales and research team to carry out in-depth discussion with the R&D department of the automobile group. Baosteel Special Steel carried out several trial productions before finally being certified for compliance with all customer specifications.
