AvestaPolarit commissions new mill

AvestaPolarit has recently installed and commissioned another Sendzimir cold rolling mill at its Precision Strip operations, Meadowhall, Sheffield, UK. The mill, which will process austenitic and martensitic stainless grades as well as high-value carbon steels, significantly increases the site’s strip capacity. The single-stand Sendzimir reversing mill and associated ancillaries were supplied by Parkegate Engineering of Poole, UK. AvestaPolarit’s exacting specifications required that the new mill matched or exceeded world-class gauge tolerances and performance. Electrical AC drives and mill automation was supplied by Alstom. Although capable of rolling any of the 45-plus grades of stainless and specialised carbon steels processed by Precision Strip’s existing mills, the new mill will focus on processing added value austenitics and temper rolled stainless. Equipped with automatic gauge control, the mill rolls 150-470mm wide coil to a current minimum gauge of 0.1mm thick, although the mill has the potential to roll foil gauges.
