AREVA’s Transmission and Distribution division has been awarded a EUR 70 million contract from the United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Electricity and Water for the design and installation of a new high-voltage substation located in Dhaid. The substation will ensure the interconnection between the different Emirates’ power grids in line with the UAE’s grid unification program. Under the scope of the agreement, AREVA will build and install an entirely new 400/220 KV substation composed of ten 400 KV and ten 220 KV gas-insulated switchgear bays and two 500 MVA power transformers. Equipment and services supplied will also include digital control systems, protection and control equipment and civil works. This contract follows the EUR 124 million project with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority for the delivery of two high-voltage substations and the construction of the Mussaffah, Jebel Ali ‘L’ and ‘D’, Wasit, Khazna and Mahawe substations.
