ANDRITZ to deliver heat treatment plant to Kardemir

International technology group ANDRITZ has received an order from the Turkish steel producer Karabük Iron & Steel Industry and Trade (Kardemir) to supply a heat treatment plant for a wheel manufacturing line. The line will produce up to 200,000 high-grade railway wheels for high-speed trains.
Press supplier Schuler, Germany, member of the ANDRITZ Group, will be the system supplier for the entire line valued at around EUR 90M.
ANDRITZ Maerz, the industrial furnace equipment specialist in the ANDRITZ Group, will supply the hardening, low-temperature, and rotary hearth furnaces as well as the hardening machine with the necessary handling technology for fully automated heat treatment of railway wheels. The heat treatment system with car bottom pusher-type furnaces developed by ANDRITZ Maerz meets hardness standards and wheel structure values for railway wheels used for high-speed trains.
This order is the first joint project by ANDRITZ and the recently acquired Schuler Group, whose supplies include a newly developed wheel rolling machine that form the railway wheels from pre-forged blanks weighing up to 500km.
