Alstom turbine for Swiss nuclear plant

Alstom has been awarded a contract to enhance four steam turbines in blocks 1 & 2 of the Beznau Nuclear Power Station in Switzerland. This order includes the installation of an advanced turbine protection and control system. Nordostschweizerische Kraftwerke, a member of Axpo, placed the order, valued at about EUR 7 million. Alstom’s scope of supply includes overall project responsibility, the mechanical equipment, including the hydraulics, electrical systems and cabling, and the assembly and commissioning. The replacement of the existing systems with state-of-the-art turbine protection and control systems will guarantee the plant’s security and reliability. In addition, the high- availability of the four turbo-sets will be ensured in the long-term. The installation at the Beznau Nuclear Power Station is scheduled for Block 1 during the overhaul outage in 2004 and for Block 2 during the overhaul outage in 2005. This project will contribute to ensuring a reliable power supply in Switzerland.
