Allegheny Technologies has selected L. Patrick Hassey, 57, to become President and CEO, effective 1 October 2003. Mr Hassey will succeed James L. Murdy, 65, who is retiring from the company on 30 September 2003. Mr Hassey also has been elected to the ATI Board of Directors, effective immediately. Mr Hassey has 35 years of broad international experience in metals manufacturing, engineered products, marketing and sales. He was Executive Vice President and a member of the Corporate Executive Committee at Alcoa, Inc., at the time of his retirement in February 2003. Mr Hassey has been working as an outside management consultant to ATI executive management since his retirement from Alcoa.
