A membrane of skin and stainless steel

Torno Internaziale spa, one of Italy’s leading engineering companies, has commissioned the firm Dante O. Benini & Partners to create the image of its new Milan offices. The project is in three separate phases: refitting of an existing building, furnishing of the latter and erection of a second building. The main facade is an envelope which forms an interactive glass membrane and provides a building of seven storeys with lightness and transparency. The north-eastern prospect of the building is protected by a trapezoidal stainless shield screen which conceals the communication grids of the inspection walkways and which, like the glazed facade, extends from the first to the seventh level. The interior design features open and common spaces and uses high-tech materials including stainless steel, which is prevalent throughout the project.
