Japan’s JFE Steel Corporation and Malaysia’s Mycron Steel Bhd have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop and promote Malaysia’s green steel solutions.
Under the agreement, Mycron Steel will integrate JFE’s JGreeX green steel into its production process. The company will use JGreeX steel as the basic material for steel products produced by Mycron Steel CRC and Melewar Steel Tube, the subsidiaries of Mycron Steel.
JGreeX green steel adopts a mass balance approach to significantly reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions throughout the steel production chain. By integrating JGreeX into the value chain, Mycron Steel plans to use a similar mass balance approach to develop its own patented green steel products.
In addition, the MoU will also focus on developing Malaysia’s green steel market and explore further advancements in sustainable steel production.
