Walsin Lihwa Corporation will invest TWD 7 billion in the coming years to boost annual capacity of specialty steel and stainless steel across the Taiwan Straits from the current 1 million tonnes to a total of 1.5 million tonnes. At present, the company has invested TWD 4 billion and TWD 3 billion, respectively, into expanding a hot rolled pickled stainless steel plant in Taiwan’s Taichung and a steel mill located in China’s Shandong Province. Their goal is to push up maximum annual output at the two factories to 350,000tns and 500,000tns. The company’s steel mills in China will be increasingly engaged in producing special steel wire rods and steel plates, while the mills in Taiwan will mostly handle production of stainless steel plates. Walsin Lihwa Corporation currently has over 200 kinds of smelting technologies for stainless steel wire rods, and intends to venture into higher-end products such as stainless steel fibers.
