Siemens Energy has received a follow-up order for the construction of a turnkey combined cycle power plant in Abu Dhabi. In collaboration with its partner, Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., the company will build the Shuweihat S3 plant approximately 260km west of Abu Dhabi. The order has come from a consortium made up of Sumitomo Corporation, Korea Electric Power Corporation and the Abu Dhabi Electricity & Water Authority (ADWEA). The new plant will have an installed electrical capacity of 1600MW after the scheduled start of commercial operation in 2014. In addition to supporting Abu Dhabi’s growing demand, the plant will also deliver power to the Ruwais refinery close by. Siemens will be the consortium leader for the plant, supplying the main components including four SGT5-4000F gas turbines, two SST5-4000 I-L steam turbines, six generators (SGen5-1000A and SGen5-2000H), an SPPA-T3000 electrical and I&C system. Daewoo Engineering & Construction will be in charge of the ancilliary and auxiliary systems and the civil works. Siemens will also provide, on a turnkey basis, a gas-insulated 400kV 8DQ1 switchgear unit. Shuweihat S3 will be the sixth power plant built by Siemens in Abu Dhabi.
