ABB to supply electrical systems for Samsung

ABB has won a USD 58 million order with Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). They will supply complete power and propulsion systems for six new LNG (liquefied natural gas) transport vessels to be built by Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI). ABB will provide electrical systems for the ships including power generation and distribution systems, electric propulsion and propulsion control systems and related engineering services. ABB’s electric propulsion concept integrated with the dual fuel engines will allow full flexibility to utilize a range of fuels. This flexibility also allows the vessel optimal fuel selection, energy efficiency and fuel consumption while achieving the lowest amount of emission levels possible when compared to conventional diesel mechanical systems. With commission scheduled for 2012 through to 2015, the ships will be utilized by several oil and gas industry end customers to transport LNG.
