Alloy detector

Niton UK has released the XLT3t alloy detector, which is able to detect light elements such as aluminium, silicon, phosphorus and sulphur without the need for helium or vacuum purging. The detector uses a geometrically optimised large area drift detector technology to deliver laboratory quality performance for these x-ray fluorescence instruments. All the Niton XL3 series analysers are supplied with Niton Data Transfer software, a suite of data management utilities that allows users to customise their instrument, set user permissions, generate custom reports, print certificates of analysis and remotely monitor and operate the instrument from a PC or PDA. The XLT3t can be used in scrap metal recycling to sort aluminium, titanium and bronze alloys. Other applications include mining exploration, where the instrument’s low detection limits allow geologists to identify anomalies at or below the averages naturally found in the earth’s crust. The instrument is also suitable for detecting soil contaminants, or screening toys, electronics and consumer goods for prohibited substances.
