Outokumpu has entered into an agreement with the Maharashtra government for setting up a coil and plate service centre in the state, entailing a cost of INR 270 crore. The MoU was signed between Mr Azeez M Khan state’s principal secretary industries and representatives of Outokumpu in the presence of Mr Vilasrao Deshmukh chief minister of Maharashtra. As per the agreement, Outokumpu India Private Ltd would set up the coil and plate service centre with a combined annual processing capacity of over 50,000tpa and it is expected to be operational in early 2010. Meanwhile, Outokumpu spokesperson said that this would be the first of its kind service centre in India equipped with modern equipments and machines for example slitting lines for tube segment, cut to length lines for automotive. It had recently set up a similar centre in China.
