The British Stainless Steel Association [BSSA] has added two modules to its RIBA-approved seminar programme: (1) The Structural Design of Stainless Steel; and (2) Stainless Steel in Swimming Pools. No. 1, aimed at architects and structural engineers, provides practical guidance on the principles of designing stainless steel structures. It gives an overview of structural applications; describes the properties of stainless steel; gives help on grade selection for different environments and introduces some structural design principles for stainless steels. It also gives useful sources of further information. No. (2) describes use of stainless steel in swimming pool applications, particularly indoors. The aims of the module are: to provide architects, architectural technicians and structural engineers with technical guidance on the use of stainless steels in swimming pool applications; to outline the principles of good design and material selection and avoid possible pitfalls.
