New coatings factory for China

Akzo Nobel is investing in a new factory for decorative coatings. The facility, which will produce water-based wall paints for the Chinese market, will be built on the company’s existing site in Suzhou near Shanghai, where Coatings already operates plants for its car refinishes, transportation coatings, powder coatings and coil coatings businesses.
Construction work on the factory is scheduled to begin by the end of the year. The new facility is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2005. The 2200 m2 factory will include R&D facilities, while a 2900 m2 warehouse for raw materials and finished goods will also be built.
