Saudi Aramco, Ras Tanura Refinery and Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant have placed an order with Hidrostal (UK) Limited for three Hidrostal horizontal-screw centrifugal 400 mm end suction pumps of stainless steel construction. Each pump is driven by a 90 kW 8-pole motor and is to handle 7200 usgpm (454 lit/sec) of wastewater-containing oil at a differential head of 42.2 ft (12.9m). The pumps are due for despatch in October 2003.
The Hidrostal pumps were selected primarily because of the unique low shear design of the Hidrostal screw centrifugal impeller, which allows pumping with minimum agitation, an essential factor when wanting to avoid the formation of oil/water emulsions as is required by Saudi Aramco.
