Super duplex used in fluid system solution

Sandvik Steel AB (Sweden) and Swagelok (USA) have together produced an integrated fluid system solution using Sandvik’s super duplex stainless steel grade SAF 2507™, that performs successfully in highly corrosive, chloride-containing environments, such as oil and gas exploration and production. The system comprises Swagelok gaugeable super duplex tube and weld fittings, an autogenous orbital welding process for welding SAF 2507 alloy components using the Swagelok welding system and Sandvik SAF 2507 super duplex tubing. The solution brings together Sandvik’s materials expertise and Swagelok’s fittings and welding expertise to create an integrated fluid system that solves an industry problem. For the first time, there are tube fittings and a weld fitting system available for SAF 2507 super duplex applications that are easy to use and have proven reliability.
Swagelok and Sandvik initiated development of a SAF 2507 alloy product line in the second half of 1998. At that time, major oil companies, who were using duplex austenitic/ferritic alloys in welded sub-sea and deepwater fluid systems for chemical injection and similar applications, were expressing the need for small-bore tubing systems that could perform in this environment.
