Transwestern Pipeline Company is on schedule to supply expanded natural gas service to California on June 1, 2002. Construction began on the $93 million expansion project late in the summer of 2001 and includes the installation of three Nuovo Pignone 41,500 turbine-driven compressor units at Transwestern’s compressor stations #1-3 located in Kingman, Flagstaff & Leupp respectively. The additional compression will allow a capacity increase of 120 mmcfd bringing total line capacity to 1.2 bcfd. The original project also included a fourth unit, which was planned and FERC permitted for compressor station #4 at Klagetoh, but that portion of the project has been postponed to coincide with the construction of the Sun Devil project in 2004. The Sun Devil project will include a 130 mile 36″ diameter lateral pipeline from Flagstaff to the Phoenix, Arizona area. Further phases of Sun Devil will involve additional compression and 90-100 miles of looping on the San Juan Lateral in New Mexico with 36″ diameter transmission pipe. Transwestern is in the early marketing stage for the Sun Devil project, which if constructed will clearly be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
