China’s Stainless steel manufacturing will expand after the country joins the WTO, according to a report in Science & Technology Daily. The cheap labour available in China will provide a nicsolid base for the continued development of the industry. Market growth will be fuelled by demand in SE Asia, Europe and America. Domestic demand for stainless steel products will also increase. Stainless steel products will also be increasingly needed in the chemical and medical care industries. In addition, demand from construction projects in urban areas and infrastructure and environmental protection projects will boost the development of the stainless steel industry. China produces only enough stainless steel to meet 20% of its domestic demand, showing that the industry’s productivity needs to improve greatly. China’s stainless steel industry will also have to improve its technology and management methods to be competitive after China becomes a member of the WTO.
