AvestaPolarit adds stainless line

AvestaPolarit Oyj Abp (Finland), has placed an order with Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services Group (I&S) for the supply of an automation system and electrical equipment for a new stainless steel production line at the Tornio Steelworks. The order provides for the basic automation, process control and electrical equipment for a combination cold rolling, annealing and pickling line for producing hot and cold rolled stainless steel. Commissioning is scheduled for summer 2002. AvestaPolarit’s plan to increase production capacity of stainless steel includes doubling output from its Tornio mill in north Finland. The combination rolling, annealing and pickling line allows all of the steps of producing high-quality, cold-strip stainless steel to be combined in a single operation. The central element of the new line will be the Siroll automation system. Siemens will also provide such services as process models for the furnaces. Included in the order are the basic automation, including technical control systems, instrumentation and control systems, and operator control and monitoring systems with process and diagnostic functions. Siemens will also supply switchgear and provide installation, commissioning and customer staff training. The project is a close association between AvestaPolarit, Siemens Finland and Siemens I&S.
