Mauritania strikes oil

British oil exploration and production group Fusion Oil & Gas plc has announced a drilling success offshore Mauritania and likened it to the beginnings of huge deepwater finds offshore in the Gulf of Mexico and Angola. “Confidentiality precludes us from talking details but based on the information we’ve seen to date I think these reservoirs will produce very well at high deliverability,” Managing Director Alan Stein said. The Chinguetti-1 well is located about 80kms from the coast of Mauritania in 800m of water in PSC B. – Australia’s Woodside Petroleum Ltd has also announced that its first exploration well in frontier acreage off the coast of the West African country of Mauritania had struck oil. The exploration well reached a total depth of 2620m in water depths around 790m.
