Ziehwerk Plettenberg readies bright steel centre

The Ziehwerk (drawing plant) Plettenberg, based in Plettenberg, Germany, has successfully commissioned a bright steel centre, type BC 50, supplied by SMS Meer, Germany. Consequently, Ziehwerk Plettenberg is extending its product range and opens up new markets.

The entire peeling line covers bright steel production for bars ranging between 11mm and 55mm in diameter and up to 8,500mm in length. The main part of the plant is the rigid, low-vibration PM1 rotary peeling machine, which is capable of producing high-quality bars with tight tolerances, even with minimal chip removal. Together with the rotary-peeling machine, a two-roll straightening and polishing machine forms the core unit of the bright steel centre. The overall result is good surface quality and straightness of the peeled bars.

The scope of supply for SMS Meer included the safety equipment as well as the electrical and hydraulic systems. The erection and commissioning were also handled by SMS Meer as part of the total package.
