World Steel Association appoints DG

The World Steel Association has appointed Edwin Basson as the new director general. He will succeed Ian Christmas, who is retiring on 1 August 2011, subject to ratification by the board. Basson currently serves as vice president for commercial co-ordination, marketing and trade policy at ArcelorMittal. He holds a degree in economics from Pretoria University in South Africa.  Basson entered the steel industry in 1994 as chief economist at Iscor and subsequently became general manager of responsible forat products.
