Wire rod mill upgrade

The Italy-based special and SS producer Rodacciai is to upgrade its wire rod mill in the north of Italy. A source at the plantmaker said that the order for new equipment has been awarded to Danieli. The project seeks to improve the plant’s productivity at the same time that it will enlarge the range of product sizes and will increase the coil weight. The start-up of the revamped mill is scheduled for the third quarter of 2007. Once the project is completed, Rodacciai will produce 8-23.5mm wire rod in carbon and stainless steels at speeds of up to 90m/sec and rates of up to 100tns/hr. Coil weight 12/04/06 17/20 will reach 2000kg. The project will include the installation of a new water cooling line, and a new laying head. The modification of the coil forming station, a new coil conveyor and a coil compacting/tying unit suitable for the increased coil weight are also part of this project.
