Westinghouse Electric Co. and its subsidiary WesDyne International announced that it has been awarded a long-term contract for reactor pressure vessel nozzle inspection at Leibstadt Nuclear Power Plant (KKL) in Switzerland. The six-year contract includes an option for four additional years. WesDyne is the non-destructive inspection branch of Westinghouse Electric Co.
The contract’s scope includes qualification of the KKL mechanised ultrasonic inspection system using a state-of-the-art phased array technique and yearly inspections of eight different nozzle types – 56 total – with each nozzle having up to three welds. In all, 127 welds will be inspected over the project’s duration. Westinghouse has been performing these inspections at KKL over the past 10 years. This contract will be executed primarily out of Westinghouse’s facility in Mannheim and supported by an international team of experts from WesDyne.
