Wastewater Facilities in Southern Egypt

Washington Group International has won a USD 43 million contract to construct a wastewater collection and treatment system in the southern Egyptian city of Luxor. The project will be completed by a joint venture sponsored and led by the Washington Group. The contract was awarded by the Egyptian National Organisation for Potable Water and Sanitary Drainage (NOPWASD) and is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Luxor project has three major aspects: construction of 47km of sewer and force main lines, construction of two pumping stations and construction of wastewater stabilisation ponds and related facilities. Other features include 4600 house-connection chambers and 1500 reinforced-concrete manholes. Work on the project will begin immediately and will take 29 months to complete.
