Pittsburgh-based Voest-Alpine Industries Inc. is under contract by Haynes International Inc. to modernise its electric arc furnace, in Kokomo, Indiana. VAI Fuchs technology will be adapted to the Swindell-Dressler furnace to increase its volume and allow “quick-change shell practice.” The core of the new equipment is mechanical and hydraulic systems, specifically a new superstructure for the furnace, new upper and lower shells; a new water-cooled roof; and new gantry lift/swivel mechanisms. Haynes International is a specialty alloy producer. The new equipment will be installed and commissioned in August.
