Vessels and pipes contract

BUTTING has been able to demonstrate its expertise in the paper and pulp industry with an expansion of production at the Hans Kolb paper plant in Kaufbeuren, Germany. Here, BUTTING Schwedt was entrusted with the manufacture and installation of vessels and pipes for a corrugated paper-making machine. The Kolb Group is among the leading small and medium-sized companies in the packaging sector and produces both standard corrugated cardboard and special packages in a number of plants. As part of an expansion of production capacities in its site at Kaufbeuren in the Allgäu, BUTTING was given the task of manufacturing and installing vessels, prefabricating and fitting the pipework for the materials and water waste-pipe of a new paper-making machine. This replaces two existing paper-making machines and is intended to enable daily production to be expanded from 110tn to 156tn of paper. In all, under the coordination of BUTTING’s project manager Heinz Steckenborn, the company supplied and installed 21 vessels (vats and pulpers) with a total weight of 37tn. Due to the high degree of prefabrication, the number of staff required on the construction site was small – only around 30 fitters were needed on site. Very soon, they were also responsible for the installation of 7000m of pipes with a nominal bore of DN 15 to DN 400. In addition, BUTTING installed around 30tn of steel for brackets and 7.5tn of steel constructions for operating platforms, staircases and railings. The plant was ready to be put into service as early as mid-2008.
