Vallourec would be providing structural seamless steel tubes for the renovation or the construction of Brazilian stadiums, prior to the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013 and the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Vallourec’s Brazilian mill in Belo Horizonte supplied 10,500 tonne of tubes to equip nine stadiums. These include five of the twelve stadiums that will host official matches during the FIFA World Cup and four others that will be used as training centres during the tournament.
Vallourec designed an innovative roof of approximately 13,000sq. m with special corrosion-resistant steel tubes for Belo Horizonte’s Mineirão stadium, Brazil’s third largest football stadium with its 62,000 seats.
Vallourec also supplied the tubes installed in the maintenance catwalk of the Maracanã stadium in Rio de Janeiro. Vallourec supplied all the 4,000 tonne of tubes for the roof of Arena Corinthians, in São Paulo, where the opening game of the 2014 FIFA World Cup will be held.
Each project had to meet specific technical requirements, combined with budget and deadline restrictions. In most cases, Vallourec steel tubes contributed to the reduction in the work completion time as well as overall costs, thanks to the reduced number of junctions and welds.
Some of these facilities will already be used for high-level international matches one year before the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
